How Sweet This Is

Recent Home Updates!

in Create, Home, Organize and Clean on 09/24/14

I wanted to share some of our recent home updates! This past summer we decide to have the whole interior of our house repainted. It had been a shade of beige and blue since we moved in 6 years ago, and I was getting tired of it. The beige turned yellow and I was tired of having to match all of my decor to a particular shade of blue.

We decided to go with a nice shade of grey, although finding a nice shade of grey is no easy task. It took 16 paint samples from 3 different stores before we finally settled on Seattle by Frazee at Sherwin Williams. More than anything I wanted a color that wasn’t really a color; something that appeared neutral and matched with everything, but still had a little of that ‘wow!’ factor.

My sample wall, you can see the beige and blue as well.

In the end, I LOVE the way it turned out, and it gave me an excuse to recreate and reorganize my home- which was super exciting!

In our dining room we have a little sitting nook with a bay window. Before we had kids, it was just that, an additional sitting area. After we had kids it turned into a play area, but somehow their toys still managed to make their way all over our house. During the reogranization process I decided to take their cubicle storage system and remake it into a room divider with a giants chalkboard on one side. I love the way it turned out- it hides a lot of their toys and gives them a creative space.

You can read the full tutorial here on how I created this chalkboard room divider.

Another fun project I finished recently was our family command center. We had a space in our kitchen that was begging for something fun, and after Miss E started preschool I quickly realized I needed a more functional space for remembering important dates and storing important paperwork. I managed to find some fun pieces to pull everything together, along with a family rules sign that I created, and some fun hanging airplants that I received as a birthday gift.

I also created and hung this verse from All Sons & Daughters. It’s my absolute favorite reminder and I love that every time I walk down the hallway I see this.

If you haven’t heard of All Sons & Daughters and are looking for some awesome worship music, you need to find them. They are amazing! We’ve seen them in concert two different times as well, and they are just as amazing live- some of the best worship I’ve ever experienced. Dawn to Dusk is the song that this quote comes from.

It feels amazing to have my house pretty much completely back together and reorganized. I reorganized the laundry room as well, I am starting to redecorate the girls bathroom and our bedroom also. As soon as I have those done I will post some updates.

Love how it all turned out, Steph! What a transformation. And your family command center turned out great. It’s been so nice having my space more organized, and it really has helped me keep track of our lives better.

Hi! I know this is a super old post, but do you possibly remember the Sherwin Williams paint product (super paint, duration, promar etc) & finish that you selected?

So Sorry for the delay! I’m sure you’re well into your project by now- but honestly I think it was just a semi-gloss paint. Nothing special.
