Miss E’s Under the Sea 3rd birthday party came together, and I loved it! It was a crazy week, we had family in town and Thanksgiving, we decorated for Christmas, and then Saturday evening around 8pm, I sat down to start preparing for our party the next day! Needless to say, it was a long night, which ended around 2am when I put the beef in the crockpot (it had to cook for 10 hours!) and headed to bed.
I had researched a little here are there online and on Pinterest for what decor I wanted. I loved the Under the Sea/Little Mermaid theme, especially because my kid is OB-SESSED with it right now and it feels like it’s all we watch, but I didn’t want it to be too cartoony. So I stuck with just a few colors, Red and Aqua, and created some fun elements to make it feel sea-like.
I had the invitations printed at Costco- it’s always the most cost-effective solution. I bought this kit (similar) on Etsy and created them myself- super easy, cute and fun!
The decor was a few things purchased and a few things pulled from around the house.
Balloons are always a must! We have had the # balloon every year! |
Our dinglehopper and snarfblatt- my husband actually has a pipe and we of course had a fork! |
Jellyfish |
Jellyfish created using plastic bowls, cupcake paper cups, and curling ribbon |
The food took a little while to pull together, but I decided to serve Pulled Beef Sandwhiches, Pasta Salad, Chips/Crackers, Veggies, Cookies and Cake.
Pearl Oyster Cookies are Madeline’s cut in half, frosting, and a candy pearl oyster. |
Shell Pasta Salad, Goldfish Food (goldfish and chips) |
Octopepper with Seaweed dip- Red Pepper & Olive slices with Ranch dip |
The Cake! Oh, the cake- one of my favorite elements of the party- both in decor and taste! The cake was done by a local bakery, the owner is actually E’s Sunday school teacher, so she made a special point to make a cake for us on a weekend when she was going to be closed. It turned out amazing! She did her Pooh cake last year also, and I loved it as well. I took the Ariel, Flounder and Sebastian to her and showed her a photo of the ribbons on a cake- I also gave her the color scheme and this is what we got. INCREDIBLE!
So now that we got all of that out of the way :), let’s get down to the party!!

Getting ready for the cake |
She was SO excited about the cake! She couldn’t wait to blow out the candles and EAT.
While we were singing Happy Birthday to her, she sat and waited (and actually meowed- she’s going through a kitty phase!) and when we are done I told her she could blow out the candles, I started to help but she already had them blown out!And of course while she was waiting for it to be cut, she couldn’t help but dig in a little! She sucked all the frosting off of Sebastian, then put him back on the cake- ha!
For the little ones I decided to have a craft this year. So I purchased a few big, plastic, ornaments and a bunch of stickers and paint from the dollar store and let them decorate bubbles- it was a hit! Then onto the gifts- this chick got a ton of Little Mermaid toys! She loved them all- while she was napping I cleaned out one of her toy boxes to make room for all her new Princess Ariel toys. The party was perfect! E was in a great mood as was little sister- we couldn’t have asked for a better day to celebrate our sweet girl! Our her actual birthday hubby and I took her out by herself- more on that to come.Sweet Girl, you are more full of life and love than we could’ve ever imagined. You continue to amaze us daily with you spirit, kindness, love and attitude! We love watching your relationship with little sister grow. We are so blessed to be your parents and have the opportunity to love you every single day. We can’t even remember life before you! We thank God every minute of every day that he gave us you!
