It’s supposed to be thunder and hail storms here today, and it’s been raining pretty steadily all night, which by the way I love.
Today is one of my home days, so it’s the perfect day for thunderstorms… and hail!
I feel like I have been through every recipe on Pinterest looking for a good homemade Starbucks knockoff drink, and have yet to find anything really good. I don’t like the frothiness of the blended drinks and the others never tasted quite right. A couple of weeks ago, I was thinking about what actually went into Starbucks drinks.
Their frappacinos have a specific frappacino base, that I can’t really replicate, so I didn’t want to attempt that. Their mochas however, are a little easier. Mocha syrup, steamed milk and espresso and the iced mocha is the same with just cold milk instead of steamed. I don’t have a milk steamer, or an espresso machine, but I do have milk and I do have coffee. So I decided to attempt an iced mocha and actually really liked the results!
First a spoonful of instant coffee, or if you have leftover coffee you can stick it in the fridge until its cool.
Next, chocolate syrup- it tastes pretty much the same. I didn’t know that until Starbucks had messed up my drink one day and hubby (who used to be a barista) fixed it quickly with a couple tablespoons of chocolate syrup and I couldn’t taste the difference! So throw a couple of heaping tablespoons of chocolate syrup in there, more or less depending on how you like it.
Add a scoop of ice
Fill with milk- I prefer non-fat.
Stir and you’re done! That’s it, so easy and really quite yummy!
After I finish my breakfast, I plan on cleaning up a bit, getting ready while E goes down for her morning nap, heading to Target for a couple of organization items (I am working on the master closet and turning our coat closet into another pantry), and this afternoon we will head over to visit a friend with a new baby!
Our weekend will consist of a girls night with rockstar toes and cocktails, just for me, not the hubby 🙂 and church- actually a pretty quiet weekend for us! YAY!
What are your plans for the weekend? How’s the weather where you are? If you are in Oklahoma, Kansas, or Texas I pray that you stay safe and dry this weekend!
I love that your husband was a barista. What a great tool to bring to your marriage ;).
I know, right!? Funny thing is I didn’t even start drinking Starbucks until he left and got his teaching job! 🙂
Have a great weekend. We had rain and hail these past 3 days but this weekend is suppose to be really nice! We’re hoping to take the girls to the park and do some fun family things
It is rainy here today too…i love these days! 🙂
That coffee looks yummy…might have to try a decaf version. I’m sure it’s A LOT cheaper than going to Starbucks, too!
Thanks for the recipe! Other than treating myself to Starbucks once or twice a month, I have never been able to justify spending the money on their drinks. So when I can make them on my own and its still tasty good, I am a happy momma. Have a great weekend! Its home/yard improvement for us the next 48 hours, but it will be well worth it. I think I will tote the kiddo to ‘the Depot’ (as he calls it) to get my veggie starters on Saturday.
Sounds like a good way to spend a rainy day. I’m excited you were able to find a drink that you like and can make at home…score! My weekend will be a little low key…cleaning, a playdate, church and I’m having a Tastefully Simple party. Yay!
I love those pictures you got of the rain – very cool!
We are actually supposed to have a pretty rainy weekend here in WI. 🙁 I am pretty bummed. The girls have their cousin over, so I was kind of hoping they could have gotten outside to burn off some of that energy. 😉
I felt like we had so much rain last month but this month we haven’t had any. You can so send me one of those mochas! YUMMY!
The mocha sounds really good!
