So last night, because I am crazy I didn’t have enough going on, I decided to try my first attempt at making homemade baby food. We had been buying store bought organic purees to get Ellie started. Our pediatrician told us that homemade foods have a different texture so it was good to start with the store bought foods. She had been doing well with quite a few different flavors so I decided it was a good time to go homemade.
Hubby had to coach practice last night and since we are trying to keep Ellie awake from her afternoon nap until bedtime, I needed something to do with her. So I loaded her into the car and headed off to the grocery store.
We browsed the aisles of the produce section picking up quite a few different fruits and veggies that were in a puree book I bought. After loading our cart with sweet potatoes, pears, mangos, bananas, apples and carrots, we headed home.
I started with carrots and apples, both easily digested purees. It was actually really easy; first peel, chop and steam the carrots.

Since the carrots take longer than the apples did, I put the carrots in the bottom steamer (I have a double layered steamer), and steamed them for about 15 minutes.

I then added to apples to the top steamer and steamed everything together for another 7 minutes or so.

I removed them both from the heat, and blended them, seperately.

I continued to blend/puree and add some of the water used for steaming until I felt like the consistency was right.

In the end I got 1 fresh apple and carrot puree each, and 2 full trays of frozen cubes for later use.
This was 2 apples and 7 carrots, not bad!

And of course, the little pup always love anything involving fruits and veggies!

Also, today is the last day to enter the giveaway for the MyMemories digital scrapbooking software- go on, head over and enter!

Good job! I never made our own baby food but wish I had. Maybe for the next one. 🙂
