There are a thousand reasons to visit Sequoia National Park, but in the month of May, the blooming dogwoods are reason enough. Last weekend, my husband and I made an impromptu trip to view these beauties before their blooms die away.
The dogwood trees appear about the same time as the sequoias do. It is stunning, these delicate trees growing among giants. I love how the flowers dot the green of the forest, like hundreds of white butterflies!
The leaves are nearly as lovely as the petals, don’t you think? Such a vibrant color! And the symmetry of it all may be part of the reason I love them so.
As with so many good things, these don’t last long. May is really the time to experience the dogwoods in bloom at Sequoia, so if you have a chance to see them, don’t miss out! Perhaps this weekend would be the perfect moment!

You can grow Dogwoods here in the valley. I have 3 that have come up from seed dropped from the previous years blooms. I live in Visalia!
We are lucky in the valley, aren’t we? So many beautiful things we can grow! I too have a few dogwoods in my yard, but they’re young, so I look forward to seeing if they’ll make it. I know that our hot summers can be rough for them. Thanks for sharing!
