After THE holidays my house always feels so bare, almost sad. The decor has been taken down, the tree thrown out, the gifts have been unwrapped and put away. Just like that, my house is empty. Thankfully Valentine’s Day isn’t far behind, giving us an excuse to brighten mantels and tables with shades of pink and red and add more love into our homes.
A few nights ago I was thinking about how I could decorate for a holiday that comes and goes fairly quickly. I want my girls to enjoy it and have fun, but I didn’t want to go out and spend a bunch of money. So I pulled out a few craft supplies and within an hour or so had this pretty little heart garland hanging from my mantel––and of course I couldn’t resist sharing with you!
Here is what you’ll need:
-Cardstock/construction paper in shades of pink, purple and/or red (you can easily use scraps as well)
-A heart punch (makes it easier, but you could go old school and fold your paper in half and cut with scissors)
-Thread and Needle
First, punch or cut as many hearts as you’d like. I cut around 40 of each color, but you can see my hearts are very close together. You could easily do less.
Now, start threading your hearts. You will want the thread to run along the top as close as possible without tearing through the heart. The first heart that I strung I went through the middle area, and the heart wouldn’t lay flat, so make sure you thread through the top like mine.
I left my hearts really close together until I hung it from my mantel, then before I cut the end of the thread I evenly spaced them out. Then you just get to enjoy your pretty, festive garland!
So how do you decorate for this sweet holiday?
