How Sweet This Is

Fun Magnet Storage from a Shampoo Bottle!

in Create, Organize and Clean on 01/10/13

So if your child is anything like mine, your fridge looks like this… all. the. time. What’s that, your child doesn’t throw all of her magnets on the floor 5 seconds after you pick them up and put them back on the fridge? Hmmm… that’s strange! Either way, this is a great solution for fridge storage and it was SO easy!

I had seen this storage solution for a charging cell phone all over Pinterest and on Make it and Love it. It thought it was awesome and super cute- but I don’t have an iphone (yet- post on that to come) so I never had a need for it.

Until I spent too many afternoons on my hands and knees scooping magnets off of the floor trying to save them from being lost under the fridge forever. So my brain decided to work a little today, come off of maternity leave, and come up with an easy solution that worked for us!

I had this extra large shampoo bottle that I knew would be perfect. So I started rinsing it out and found a few magnet hooks that we had used for towels at one point, that just sat on the side of our fridge now.

After cleaning it out, I cut the top off…

then cut it down a little more, although not much because I wanted it to remain deep. I smoothed it out (you can sand the edges if needed like in the other tutorial, but I didn’t find that it was needed), and peeled back the label.

Then punched a small hole in the back, big enough for my magnet hook to fit through.

Hook your magnet through, scoop up your many magnets and hang on the fridge!

That’s it, easy peasy, cheap and quick! You could decorate the outside with Mod Podge or vinyl but I didn’t want to invest that much into it. It took me all of 10 minutes and that was the best part 🙂

And while I was trying to take photos of it E discovered it and thought it was pretty great!

She took magnets out, put them on the fridge, then put them back in the little bucket! Success!!

And the I saw this… do you see the little bucket by the door- I guess its better for her to take down the whole bucket than throw every single magnet on the floor…. baby steps!

This would also be a great solution for storing pens/markers, business cards, or other knick knacks on your fridge that you need to access often!

This is so smart! Finding new uses for pinterest projects is such a good feeling, and that project is just so perfect for holding all sorts of small things 🙂

Oooo! I have a newly emptied baby wash bottle too! Charleigh throws the magnets off too…I’m pretty sure that’s what she thinks they are for. And Jon kicks them under the fridge so he doesn’t have to worry about them. Haha. So thank you, I will use this so much!

Great idea!! And I love that it costs nothing, and uses something that would just be thrown away. I think I want about twenty of these to hold all the random things that get thrown (and thus never found) in junk drawers!
