How Sweet This Is

A Pea in a Pod

in Celebrations, Littles on 03/29/10

Saturday Afternoon my sister-in-law Meg, mother-in-law and I threw my other sister-in-law Amber a baby shower.
We are so lucky to have the cafe at our church as it makes the perfect setting for a shower like this. It went so smooth and so well, Meg and Aileen really did a wonderful job. I can’t take much credit for anything, I was in charge of the cupcakes and one of the games… but I do think the cupcakes turned out rather cute 🙂

Meg had fresh fruit, hummus and bread and lettuce wraps for people to snack on, everything was delicious! I think I ate half of the hummus myself… no seriously!

I made two different cupcakes, devils food with buttercream icing and carrot cake with cream cheese icing.  I colored fondant two different colors of green and made pea pods for the top of the cupcakes. It was my first time working with fondant and I think it went pretty well, definitely something with more practice I might be pretty good at. Although I didn’t eat any of them, everyone said they were very tasty, and I was glad to put my cake-class skills to use!

Amber the honoree and Laurel, a friend that we go to church with.

She was smart and only registered for the necessities, knowing of course that everyone couldn’t resist pitching in a cute little outfit. She got almost everything off of her registry; I think she will be fully stocked on wipes, diapers, and baby shampoo for at least a month or two!

I made her a diaper cake… don’t let anyone tell you this thing is easy to make! It isn’t! I love the way it turned out, however it took quite a bit of maneuvering to get everything in there and make it stand upright.

I made her some matching burp-cloths for the cake toppers and just usex a silk flower and paper towel tubes for the center.
Meg, Amber and I at the end of the shower… I think we were all exhausted but it really was beautiful and I am sure Amber feels so blessed to have such wonderful women to help her start this precious new life!

Hey girl! Your cupcakes look fabulous! And do I spy that cute little tray again under the sandwiches? Your diaper cake is super cute too…very creative! It’s nice to “meet” Amber – especially since we’re both SU! Demos. It’s a very close “family” at SU!…love every Demo I’ve ever met 🙂 Hope your day is going well!

Those cupcakes are just adorable! I am in love with anything cake-related and am obsessed with Ace of Cakes on Food Network. Have you seen it? They’re always covering or making something out of fondant. It looks tough; I’m too scared to try working with it!
