A couple of you have asked about the chalkboard sign that I’ve been using for my pregnancy updates, so I thought I would just write a quick post and let you all in! 🙂
I decided to make this chalkboard about 6 months ago. I had seen so many fun chalkboards floating around the blogosphere and I knew I wanted one. I went to a couple of different thrift stores looking for frames to refinish or repurpose, but finding a frame was hard enough- but large interested frames are really not that cheap, then add the cost and time to repaint and I was kind of over it.
So I decided to go online and see if I could find frame that I didn’t really have to touch- and I did!
I found the frame at Amazon.com. The store called The Rusty Roof has some really beautiful frames at great prices. The shipping is a little more expensive but I got the 16 x 20 frame for $30 after shipment- which seemed good to me considered it would’ve cost probably that much in time and effort to redo an older frame.
Once I got the frame, I had some chalkboard contact paper already so I decided to just wrap the glass in contact paper and use that. If you are using the chalkboard pens, like I have been using in my baby updates, then this method works great. If you want to use chalk, then I would suggest removing the glass and replacing it with a thin piece of wood covered in chalkboard paint. I plan to do that eventually, but for now I love the boldness of the chalkboard pens and I believe those work better on the chalkboard contact paper. I am sure you could probably find the chalkboard pens cheaper with a coupon at your local craft store, I just wanted to show you specifically which ones I bought.
Hope that helps!
I didn’t know about the chalk pens! Do they smear just as easy as regular chalk? Bella gets a kick out of smearing the writing on my chalkboard before I can even do anything with it!
Hey Michelle! They don’t smear, once they are dry they are dry and I actually have to use a wet paper towel to erase them. I have heard that they might stain chalkboard paint, but I don’t have any to know for sure 🙂
