Today we’re sharing how to make this adorable easy washi tape mini bannerI love this craft and first made it for my daughter’s one-year birthday cake. I had a simple cake that needed a little extra glitter! It’s so easy, requires little materials or time, and adds the perfect touch to any birthday cake or centerpiece!
From Candace: When I saw Steph’s too-cute cake (she made and frosted that awesome frilly thing herself…amazing, right?), I thought I could steal the banner to add to my container gardens! To create my mini garden party centerpiece, you need the following supplies:
- Clay pot or container
- Soil
- Succulents (Look for different heights and colors to bring even more pizazz to your creation!)
- Stones
- Fun accessory, such as this bright pink flamingo from West Elm, part of their awesome handcrafted seedpod bird collection. FYI, you can get it for 25% off right now by using the code SUMMER. (And by the way, West Elm is now supporting the artisans who handcraft these and other items. How awesome is that?)
Once you have your basic supplies, fill your clay pot with soil and pack it nicely. Add succulents and stones, then place your fun bird right in the front middle. He is the main party attraction! Take your washi tape banner and simply push the skewers down into the soil.
To care for your succulent garden, place it in a sunny location and water it when the soil is dry. Keep in mind that succulents are drought-tolerant plants and do not like to sit in water! My indoor succulents are quite happy with their twice a month watering. Outdoor succulents may require more.
This washi tape mini banner is simple, fun, and versatile. I could see adding bright beads to look like lights, playing with the shape of the pieces, or using letter stickers to spell out a sweet message. Whether you’re dressing up a celebration cake or a container garden, this banner will bring the party to life! (At least this flamingo thinks so!)
