This week I am sharing Insurgent (Divergent #2) by Veronica Roth

Here is the summary from Good Reads:

One choice can transform you—or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves—and herself—while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.

Tris’s initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable—and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.

New York Times bestselling author Veronica Roth’s much-anticipated second book of the dystopian Divergent series is another intoxicating thrill ride of a story, rich with hallmark twists, heartbreaks, romance, and powerful insights about human nature.

This is the second series in Veronica Roth’s Divergent Trilogy, I also reviewed the first book, Divergent. I think I actually liked this book MORE than the first book. The first book was really good! I sped through it in probably a week or so and this book was no different. I think I was through it in less than a week. Veronica Roth has a way with cliffhangers. She is similar to Suzanne Collins in the way that she ends almost every chapter with a cliffhanger that leaves you wanting, needing more! So as each chapter came and went and I was left with my jaw hanging open half the time, I couldn’t stop.

One of my small complaints of Divergent was that we didn’t really know why things were the way they were. Usually in the first book we get some sort of history and we didn’t with Divergent. She does a much better job of answering questions in this book. The society consists of five factions and each faction has a specific quality or trait and job. We got a much better look into each faction in this book and into the society and the history of the society as a whole. In addition, the end of the book is a HUGE cliffhanger that makes me angry the third book isn’t even written yet!

So, a few reasons why I loved this book: 1) Veronica Roth makes you question everything- there is so much gray area with everyone and everything in the book you never really know who to trust. 2) The characters- I really loved the characters. She does a great job of developing more personality in this book and we get a better glimpse into these lives. There were parts of the book where I was hating the main character, Tris, however Veronica Roth rounds you back in and let’s you understand why she does what she does. And I fell in love with Four/Tobias. I was SO glad there was no love triangle in this book, I was over that, but the relationship between Tobias and Tris continues to gain depth and we really see their relationship dive in head first, we’re along for the ride to see how that turns out. She also has a great cast of interesting character who we love and hate, who surprise us almost every step of the way. 3) This is not a filler book; it does not slow down ever- it is just as important as the first book.

So, five stars 🙂 If you enjoyed Hunger Games you will really enjoy this series!

I am currently in the middle of Crossed (actually almost done thanks to Jury Duty) and Forgotten God.
**I’ve also decided to use the same
linky each time I post so that you won’t have to search back through
these posts to find a book, every week we can just add more books to the
list, or give your own review on a book that someone else may have
already linked 🙂

I loved the 2nd book too! I’m ready for the third one 🙂 Have you read Girl in Translation? I think that is my next book I am going to read.

Okay, I need to read these now!

Finally joined up — too bad it’s not a fun fiction read, but I’ll link one of those up soon, too. Thanks for hosting!
